About Newport Harbor Orchid Society

Our primary mission is to foster the culture, cultivation, and conservation of orchids, and to educate the members and the public about orchids. We combine our educational goals with a number of special activities and social events throughout the year. Including an annual greenhouse and garden tour of members’ growing areas, visits to orchid nurseries located in Southern California, a spring orchid show and sale, a summer exotic plant and orchid festival, an annual banquet, and finally, a holiday party.

Founded in 1979, NHOS is a large and very active society with over 100 participating members who reside in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Diego counties.

We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at the Norma Hertzog Community Center, 1845 Park Ave., Costa Mesa CA 92627. The meetings begin with a culture class (topic related to orchid culture) from 7:00-7:45 p.m., followed by the general meeting at 7:45 p.m. which features a speaker (topics range on various orchids), ribbon judging, plant display, refreshments, a silent auction, and plant opportunity table. Please refer to our Newsletter for the latest NHOS Info..

Thank you for visiting the NHOS website. Please take a few minutes to read through the different sections and be sure to enjoy the photography. Whether you are a new or experienced grower, one of the best ways to learn more about orchids and to meet others who are passionate about this remarkable hobby is to join an orchid society. If you are not currently a member of NHOS, please consider attending a future meeting as a guest.

If you would like to send us a note, please use the contact us page, we love feedback.
